Jul 16, 2020 The best orchestra VST plugins provide such rich and detailed performances that it’s almost as if a full orchestra showed up at your studio for an extended recording session! In this guide we’ll take a look at a number of these selections. PS: you might need to bookmark this one, in case you may need to get back to it in the future. Cubase comes with a VST Bridge meant to make the transition to 64-bit systems easier, but the internal bridge cannot cope with some 3rd party 32-bit plug-ins and although Steinberg plug-ins are mostly bridged correctly, the outcome of bridging is pretty much system-dependent. HOW TO USE VST PLUGINS

VST plugins are virtual instruments and effects that you can use in productions. They can recreate classic synth designs, or represent completely new ways of making sound. VST plugins are easy to use; download them, install, and your DAW will pick them up and let you use them in the workstation. From classic instruments to experimental indie gems, there’s a huge world of both paid and free VST plugins to choose from. Native has spent decades creating and developing some of the world’s leading VST plugins with REAKTOR, KONTAKT, KOMPLETE KONTROL, and loads more.

HOW TO USE VST PLUGINS FOR SYNTH SOUNDS

VST plugins can be used in a wide variety of ways to create synth sounds for songwriting and production. Almost any instrument can be turned into a VST plugin, and more often than not, when you need a certain kind of sound there’s a VST plugin for it. There are several varieties of VST plugins for synth sounds that are worth noting. Polyphonic VST plugins create more than one note at a time, so are great for building complex melodies, chords, and harmonies, while monophonic VST plugins play one note at a time and are commonly used for basslines. Some VST plugins strictly model themselves on reproducing sounds you would expect from analogue instruments, but others go way beyond that. Wavetable VST plugins like MASSIVE and MASSIVE X tend to focus on helping producers create something unusual and completely different to traditional instruments, and can be more useful for experimental productions than other VST plugins.

HOW TO USE MULTIPLE VST PLUGINS

Trying things out and exploring new territory is hugely important when trying to craft something unique, and using multiple VST plugins will give you a wide range of instruments and sounds to work with. Chaining multiple VST plugins together sis a typical way to start crafting a sound you can call your own. Feeding one VST plugin instrument into a VST plugin effect will alter them even further. This is also common with digital production as lots of recording tools come in VST plugin form – there’s no issue with running multiple VSTs at once – simply load them in and start playing. Native offers over 2,000 free sounds and more than 6 GB of free VST plugin content with KOMPLETE START, so if you’re looking for some inspiration it’s a great way to get started.

From version 3.6.11, Steinberg’s VST plugin format will natively support the integration of the ELK MusicOS, allowing VST-based plug-ins to run seamlessly in Powered by ELK musical instruments and audio processors.

ELK is the first available embedded platform to officially support all plug-ins developed under VST 3 specification, allowing manufacturers to offer their customers access to an enormous range of VST instruments and processors

“We were very impressed by the performance and stability that the ELK Music Operating System has to offer. And this is the prominent reason that we decided for it to become the first platform for hardware musical instruments within the VST domain.” is how Yvan Grabit, senior developer and tech lead at Steinberg, presented this collaboration.

As a continuation of this official partnership Steinberg and MIND Music Labs joined forces by bringing a brand-new, co-developed desktop synth prototype to SUPERBOOTH19 in Berlin.

Trickster free vst. “We immediately saw the potential of ELK MusicOS, and that’s why we added it to the official VST SDK [Software Development Kit]. The development of the ‘Powered by ELK’ Retrologue 2 hardware prototype has further strengthened our belief that, with the help of ELK MusicOS, VST can become a standard for not only software, as it is today, but also for hardware.” – Florian Haack, Senior Marketing Manager at Steinberg

“Plug-ins and software synths have brought amazing power and flexibility to computer-based recording, but now musicians want to harness all that power without the computer; there are times when you want to twist real knobs, rather than wiggle a mouse. It’s really exciting to be empowering those users with ELK MusicOS.”Michele Benincaso CEO MIND Music Labs

The proof-of-concept Powered by ELK Retrologue 2 desktop synth prototype — running the full Retrologue 2 VST desktop version, successfully emulating the warmth and fatness of classic analog synthesizers — was showcased for all to see and hear in Steinberg-owner Yamaha’s booth at SUPERBOOTH19 in Berlin.
