Matt Tytel, the brain behind the free Helm Synth, is working on a new open-source wavetable Synthesizer plugin called Vital that will come out this year.
A new open-source Synthesizer plugin was already presented at the ADC19 (Audio Developer Conference) in London. The developer is not unknown. It is Matt Tytel who has already coded the open-source Helmet Synth plugin for PC & Mac. Bissell little green machine model 1400-4 user manual.

Vital is a new wavetable synth that can be seen as an open-source counterpart of Xfer Serum because the feature set is very similar. The photos of the GUI’s are from the presentation from last October. The GUI is not final!

Wavetable Engine
Vital will features 2 wavetable oscillators, 1 sub-oscillator and 1 sampler source that can be used as a noise source per example. The latter one also offers a shuffle function with which you can trigger a different section of the sample with a different note.

A solid polyphonic synth, Helm offers lots of tweaks and customizations for pro users.
The wavetable engine is deep: it allows you to create own wavetables from scratch using the built-in wavetable editor. Interpolate single cycle waveforms, warp existing wavetables into new ones or even generate wavetables from text.
Generate clean sounds using Vital’s oscillators that have an extremely low noise floor and have a sharp cutoff at Nyquist for almost no aliasing.
That’s not all that you can do with the wavetable engine. Besides advanced shaping options, you can turn own samples into wavetables by using Vital’s pitch-splice or vocode wavetable import options. How far this goes, you can see in the video below.
Filters & Stereo Modulations
The sound sources (2 oscillators, 1 sub & 1 sample) travel then in two filters that offer flexible routing options. On the modulation side, it offers 4 envelopes (ADSR) and 4 LFOs that can be managed in a modulation matrix. The synth will also offer 4 macro controls to which you can map parameters

Cool here, you can stereo modulate almost any control in Vital. Modulate filter cutoffs and resonances in opposite directions for your left and right ears. /free-vst-noise-gate-mac.html. Tweak an envelope so the decay time varies in stereo. If all the stereo modulation gets too crazy, blend it back to Dual-Mono mode and have both stereo channels playing their separate controls in the center for a full stacked sound.
Effects
To refine the sounds in the end, Vital will feature a good selection of effects on a dedicated GUI page. It includes chorus, compressor, delay, distortion, EQ, filter, flanger, phaser and reverb. The developer will plan to release an additional Vital FX plugin that is a separate multi-effects plugin including the entire modulation options (4 envelopes/4 LFOs).
GPU Optimized Graphics
The good CPU performance is also ensured. Roland u20 vst plugins. Get real-time synth feedback from Vital’s wavetable, filter, LFO, envelope, and modulation animations that run at a clean 60 frames-per-second. Vital motion blurs LFO and envelope animations to show those ultra-fast modulations. All animations are GPU optimized which leaves your CPU to do its real job, the audio processing.

Matt Tytel’s new open-source wavetable Synthesizer Vital could be one of the biggest soft synth releases of this year. Especially for many bedroom producers who don’t have the money to buy Serum…, this could be an amazing wavetable synth for the start. According to the developer, they plan to release a commercial version with more presets. I’m looking forward to this release.
